I became pregnant at the age of 35, and for the first time since my two first pregnancies at age 18 and 19, I knew I was ready to be a mother - but I felt very under educated about pregnancy, birth, and the amount of resources and support I would learn to need along the way.

Choosing to opt out of hiring a doula due to the limited providers in the area, I chose to self-educate and trust referrals and shared experiences of others.

Ultimately, I would focus my attention on a natural, pain free, birth and prepared my mind, body and spirit for that route the entire 41 and 2 day of my pregnancy with my son.

On June 3, 2024, my birth plan would be almost completely thrown out as I was pushed towards a Cesarean birth - an option I hadn’t considered or given a second though as it scared me to think about. The experience was traumatic to myself and my husbad. However, my son was born and my (and his father, my husbands) hearts were forever larger.

My physical recovery was slow and my mental health recovery took up to 18 months after birth. My husband was not provided support but rather criticism. We help each other in the process and found ways of healing through support groups, friends, and mindfulness practices.

My journey to becoming a birth and postpartum doula began in 2025 as a method to become more educated on the herstory of pregnancy and birth, understand the role of the doula, apply my passion for trauma-informed care, and fill a gap in the community here in Northern Nevada on birth support and postpartum support
